Salt, Sulfur, and Mercury: The Three Parts of You
A lot of ancient wisdom sounds confusing until you realize—it was always about us. The old alchemists weren’t just talking about turning lead into gold. They were mapping out how to transform the self.
They spoke in symbols: Salt, Sulfur, and Mercury.
It might sound like old chemistry, but really, these three ideas are about how we function as human beings.
Salt is your structure. Your body. Your habits. Your history. It’s what holds everything in place. The routines you follow. The defenses you built. The things that make you feel safe or stuck. Salt is what makes you solid, but it can also make you rigid if you don’t grow.
Sulfur is your fire. Your drive. The emotions that push you forward—or blow things up. It’s your passion, your anger, your creativity. Sulfur is what gets you off the couch, what fights for change, what risks everything when something matters to you. But without guidance, it can burn you out or burn bridges.
Mercury is your flexibility. Your flow. It’s how you think, how you adapt, how you connect things that seem opposite. Mercury is your inner messenger—it helps your body and emotions talk to each other. It lets you shift perspectives, stay curious, and keep moving through life’s ups and downs.
These three elements are always working in us. When they’re balanced, we feel like we’re in sync. We make better decisions. We grow. We change. We handle challenges without losing ourselves.
But when they’re out of balance?
Too much Salt, and we get stuck in old patterns.
Too much Sulfur, and we get reactive or overwhelmed.
Too much Mercury, and we might feel ungrounded or disconnected.
Real growth comes from learning how to work with these parts of ourselves—not suppress them, not escape them.
You need Salt to stand strong.
You need Sulfur to stay alive inside.
You need Mercury to stay open and move forward.
This is the real alchemy. Not magic tricks. Just learning how to understand your own nature better, and use that understanding to become more whole, more clear, and more real.
Because once you do that?
You don’t have to look outside for transformation.
You become it.
